What Are Macros?
Macros. What are they?
Macronutrients or “Macros” are the main sources of nutrients a body needs to maintain healthy function. These main macronutrients are: protein, fat and carbohydrates. Each macronutrient contains a certain number of calories per gram. Counting macros ensures that you are maximizing your caloric intake with the right amount of proteins, carbs, and fats to fuel your body making it possible for you to achieve your goals. Unlike with counting calories only, knowing what your macronutrient calculation can aid in goals like body recomposition, fat loss, sports performance, muscle gains and overall better health.
How to track macros:
By using an app designed to track your daily food intake like, My Macros +, my fitness pal or cronometer, you can “track” your food easily! Once you know your customized macro calculation provided by me, you will set those numbers in your app, and track all food and drink(caloric ones) you consume daily by weighing your food on a digital food scale and entering it into the app.
You’ll also want to invest in an inexpensive food scale. Weighing out your food is easy and the most accurate way to track your macros.
CHECK THIS OUT! I have another way for you track your macros that doesn’t entail using a food scale and macro tracking app! It’s call hand portions. Once I calculate your macros, I will convert them to portions- these portions will be counted by using your hand as your measuring guide. All of this will be detailed for you in your customized nutrition plan.
But why count macros??
Counting macros allows you to manipulate nutrients and cater them to your personal goals, like sports performance, fat loss, muscle gains and overall knowing what your personal physiology needs to be it’s best. Not only that, counting macros allows you to eat all food groups to help fuel your body. No restrictions here, unless you need to because of dietary issues. You will find that knowing and tracking your macros allows for so much balance in your eating day.
